Essay / Justification for the Atomic Bomb - 861
On August 6, 1945, the United States of America dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. For a considerable time there were debates and arguments over whether or not the dropping of the bomb was justified. The United States was indeed vindicated because of Japan's attacks on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, which occurred three years before the atomic bomb. falling on Hiroshima. It was important to stop the war as soon as the United States could, because it spared many American and Allied lives. Until that point in World War II, no battles had taken place in the United States. Women, men and children had no reason to worry about being killed in their own country until the dark date in American history, December 7, 1941, the ambush of Pearl Harbor. That day, the Japanese launched an air attack of 423 planes, hitting the base at Pearl Harbor, which left 2,403 dead and 1,178 wounded. Hitting eighteen American ships, it almost completely neutralized the American navy in a single day. Unbeknownst to many citizens, the attack wiped out 180 fighter jets used as part of the United States Air Force. Because of Japan's unjustified attack on Pearl Harbor, there is no doubt that the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, were indeed justified. The United States was justified in attacking Hiroshima with the atomic bomb due to the unexpected strike on citizens and the American naval fleet at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. for example, the atomic bomb showed that America was a force not to be reckoned with when it dropped it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It indicated to other nations that the United States possessed weapons and, if necessary, used those weapons. This particularly undermined...... middle of paper ... combative and savage weapons, it was one of the few approaches to ending the war effectively and quickly. Many people were killed, but its use could have saved more lives than if the war had continued. The nuclear shell is a capable weapon and should only be used as a last resort to win a war. America was developing a plan that would involve launching a full ground invasion of mainland Japan. This invasion would have caused more victims than the dropping of the atomic bombs. In the battles that took place on Okinawa, approximately 12,000 Americans and 250,000 Japanese were killed throughout the ongoing fighting on the island. Compare this to mainland Japan and it becomes clear that dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was completely justified and also the best option for the United States to end the war as quickly as possible..
