Urban Problems of Inner-City TeenagersIn the generation that today's teenagers live in, they are seasoned with the idea that getting by is a simple key to success and a good life. Many of these teenagers who are so bound by this abhorrent stereotype don't realize that what their future holds depends on their actions and that how they grow up matters. Regardless of what is said about inner-city teens, they have the power to change the negativity released by the decisions they make to become much healthier. The actions suffered by urban adolescents have considerable consequences on the environment in which they live. If you were to ask your average inner-city teenager how they embody themselves, their answers would sound more like a motto than how they actually perceive who they are as a unique individual. Despite their passionate perception of how they see themselves, there is hope because it comes to show that they have not yet found devotion. Every day, you witness the profound adaptations that adolescents make. Teenagers these days generally tend to focus more on relationships than on education. This is where they are wrong. One of the most common problems many inner-city teens face in these relationships is violence or some form of abuse. According to statistics from a 2011 article, 10 to 12 percent of adolescents report physical abuse, compared to 33 percent who report any type of violence. “We all know it exists. What should we do about it,” cited Bronwen Carroll of Boston Medical Center. She then decided to conduct a study with her ER colleagues who fund primarily poor African-American children and adolescents. Considering having a baby or having sex won't make things better. Pushing someone around to look cool doesn't get you through college. Despite all the obstacles that inner-city children face, this does not make them any less than children growing up elsewhere. Beyond the stereotypes that people use to define inner-city teenagers, they believe that one day they will rise up and show the world that they are worthy and can be sophisticated like everyone else.
