The leadership style of top management can be characterized by the team management approach. The group is team-oriented, but is capable and works independently, recognizing the common stake everyone has in Nike. Corporate culture contributes to the fact that the teamwork style of senior management has spread throughout the organization (Enderle, Hirsch, Micka, Saving, Shah, & Szerwinski, 2000). Nike's board of directors is composed of both executive and dependent directors. The combination of these two types of directors benefits Nike in that there are people directly involved in Nike as well as others indirectly involved who bring outside experience, provide another frame of reference, and can help the board of directors as a whole to think outside the box. ยป (Enderle, Hirsch, Micka, Saving, Shah and Szerwinski, 2000). Nike Incorporate uses the "systemic" decision-making style, due to the diversity on the board of directors and the emphasis on teamwork among managers. This leads to people being open to different ideas to solve a certain problem. Thus, a problem will be seen from several points of view and it will be explored with multiple solutions. However, after considering numerous options, the board/management becomes more hierarchical, subjecting various alternatives to rigorous analysis that results in a clearly prioritized set of solutions (Bloisi, Cook, & Hunsaker, 2007). In the end, the Nike board/management comes up with a few solutions to solve a certain problem. They will use the different solutions to explore what will be the best solution to a given problem.
