Their provocative nature allows them to be independent and this helps them overcome loneliness. Selflessness is a rare trait to see and usually the hero has this trait because it makes him stand out more and allows him to stand out for a good cause. Finally, courage is the most popular trait seen in heroes and it is the courage that heroes have that others do not have and that is the key for the hero to move forward and fight for that which is right. A person may want to stand up for what is right, but their lack of courage is what holds them back and what propels heroes forward. In heroic folk tales, it is the hero who points out an injustice or problem in society.
