  • Essay / Daniel Boone - 772

Most of us are familiar with the difficulties faced by many Americans as the country grew and expanded; add new territories to explore and colonize. Many contributed to this period of history in the creation of what is today the United States of America. Those who participated in this campaign made many sacrifices to help define what became a very great country. Chances are you've heard of Daniel Boone, who is known by many as one of America's most famous pioneers. The question is whether he really lived up to the historical hype of the great frontier explorer, or, like so many others, was he really just reacting to the life circumstances he faced ? This amazing story happened just like the Alamo; after Boone's death (Daniel Boone: Legend). In many books, Boone is considered a legend and a hero, but many people believe that he was over-glorified and was not everything people had imagined. You can read everywhere that he was the first to settle in Kentucky and start the first permanent settlement, but a year before Boonesboro was settled, a man named James Harrod settled in Harrodsburg. Harrodsburg became Kentucky's first permanent settlement, not Boone's Boonesborough (World Biography). Although many stories about him have been proven false, people still consider him the greatest frontier explorer of all time. In 1964, 20th Century Fox made a television show about Daniel Boone. It glorified him as a great pioneer who wore a coonskin cap and had many great adventures..
