Guns in hand, more than two dozen Black Panthers marched into the California State Legislature to rebel against a bill on gun control. This excessive stunt increased the recognition of the Black Panther Political Party, making them the new leaders and image of the Black Power movement and through this, they gained many supporters, worldwide, for their ideology of nationalism black (Joseph 210). In the midst of a nonviolent movement, the Panthers spread their aggressive rhetoric to highlight the stagnation of the civil rights movement and the mistreatment of blacks by whites. Using rhetoric, the Black Panther Party strongly encouraged self-defense by African Americans when necessary. Together, the men and women of the party led dynamic actions to combat racial discrimination. Although both sexes worked together to reduce racial inequality, another inequality developed within the party (“The Black Panthers”). One of Black Panther's visions was to protect all oppressed minorities, but ironically, the oppressed were a minority of African American women. Due to sexism within the Black Panther Party, the infrastructure was damaged due to recurring conflicts between the two sexes. The Black Panther Political Party was conceived by political activists Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966. The Panthers were built on the foundation of Malcolm contributing positively to communities (“Black Panther Party”). The Black Panthers were composed of black nationalists and unconventional Marxists eager to become respected revolutionaries on behalf of black Americans (Joseph 177).
