Essay / In Ocrate's society, an individual is "naturally" suited to a particular profession. This may seem "right" in Socrates' mind, but could he be wrong? If this were true, then in our society (21st century Western culture) we should naturally be suited to only one profession. However, this is not the case, we can be very good at one area and perform poorly in another. Coming back to the society of Socrates, could it be possible that an assistant would be more successful in the field of work of the shoemaker rather than as a soldier or shoemaker who is extremely wise and whose best occupation is to be a guard ? Absolutely! Justice is giving everyone what they deserve. If someone is suitable for the position of guardian, but is stuck as a shoemaker due to their status, this should be considered unfair. This contradicts Socrates' view that justice is giving everyone what they deserve, because someone may be better suited to a different profession. If Socrates had included an alternative to the role someone plays in his society, he could have increased the view of justice in the world.
