  • Essay / The Path of Food and Alcohol - 527

Your food goes through many trials before it is completely digested by your body. Your body must absorb all the nutrients in your diet to benefit and affect it. Pablo, Jimmy Bob, Akihuro and Darius ate loaded nachos and beer while celebrating at a World Series party. All the food they have eaten will pass through the digestive system, into the blood into the circulatory system, and in this case, the alcohol will affect the central nervous system. The digestive system's job is to break down food into small molecules. be absorbed by the villi of the small intestine. Digestion begins as soon as they take a bite of their nachos and enter the oral cavity. The tongue moves food in the mouth so that the teeth can crush it, while the salivary glands secrete saliva to wet the food. It is swallowed through the pharynx and down the esophagus where it then enters the stomach. The stomach adds hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes to the food ball to break it down mechanically. This is where proteins from cheese, sour cream and beef are absorbed. The now semi-liquid food passes through the pyloric sphincter into the small intestine. The small intestine is the point of diffusion and where absorption occurs. Previously consumed nachos are now ready to be absorbed in the small intestine. This is where carbohydrates and lipids from food must be absorbed. Multiple digestive enzymes produced by the liver and pancreas act on food. The tissue lining of the small intestine is made up of finger-shaped parts called villi and undulating microvilli. This is where the circulatory system comes into play. The villi absorb food molecules and diffuse them into blood vessels which then enter the bloodstream. The heart pumps blood throughout the body. By the time the food reaches the end of the small intestine, all the nutrients are absorbed and digested. The food is carried to the large intestine where the remaining water is absorbed. The large intestine compacts food in the stool where it is stored in your colon. The colon straightens into your rectum where the nachos once fully loaded exit through the anal canal and anus. While Pablo, Jimmy Bob, Akihuro and Darius were at the party, they drank a lot of beer. Alcohol affects the brain, which is part of the central nervous system..
