    As stressful as our high school life is, students do their best to cope with the stress and obstacles they may face. Students are busy with school, extracurricular activities and jobs which are very important for their future. However, students must prioritize academic performance above anything else. The best way to help a student do their best in education is to start schools later. A later start time provides students with more time to sleep, eat well, while also allowing them to participate in extracurricular activities. School starting later promises benefits for students, such as increased sleep time. Sleep is important for everyone, especially high school students who can be negatively affected if deprived of it. Sleep is beneficial because it provides rest to help the body function. According to the National Sleep Foundation, adolescents need at least nine hours of sleep. However, teens don't get enough sleep because they attend school early, participate in extracurricular activities, or have part-time jobs. These factors force adolescents to sleep later, limiting the amount of time they can sleep. A later start time would allow students to sleep in the morning to meet the required nine hours. Lack of sleep can cause adolescents to develop sleep disorders such as narcolepsy and insomnia, which can be extremely harmful and hugely affect their behavior. In 2006, the National Sleep Foundation surveyed students, “46% of whom reported being depressed” (SleepFoundation, 2013).
