Last year, on August 17, "Major League Baseball suspended Miguel Tejada of the Kansas City Royals for 105 games without pay for testing positive for an amphetamine" (Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports). Major League Baseball organization suspends players involved in doping; but is this an appropriate way to handle this situation? Doping of any player during a sporting activity does not demonstrate good sportsmanship towards the athletes of the opposing team. Applying powerful and dangerous substances to a player's body is not fair treatment for other athletes who are building their physical structure naturally. Most people realize what it takes to compete in high-level sporting competitions, but drug abuse around the world has changed many viewers' minds. Although some insist that doping should be legal, most do not realize the consequences of such an act. Performance enhancing drugs have become a major problem in today's sports world. Competing at a high level should require a lot of talent and dedication. Some professional athletes feel that "the competitive drive to win can be very intense", while other players believe that the use of performance-enhancing drugs will make the game easier (Drug Free Sport). Even though doping “violates the rules of the game and exposes competitors to sanctions,” it still exists in sports, from high school to professional leagues (Mitten). The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is attempting to end substance use during sports participation by conducting random drug inspections, but testing has not completely demolished this movement (Mitten). The thing about sport is that every player has to play by the same rules. Although some athletes don't realize it, the combination of sports and drugs can disrupt your game in several ways. Although drugs are not completely banned, most sports associations have tried to put a stop to them because they are causing a huge problem in America. This research clearly indicates that performance enhancing substances should not be legal in any sporting association because they present a lack of sportsmanship. . In 2010, “Mark McGwire, who broke Roger Maris' single-season home run record in 1998, admitted to using steroids during his career” (Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports). As mentioned above, the appropriate way to deal with this situation is suspension since the ban on steroids should take place. Sport should be free of drugs.
