  • Essay / Importance of Adultery - 1347

The popular argument he defines is that adultery is morally wrong because there is a promise that is not kept (Wasserstrom, 1985, p.241 ). Wasserstrom is careful to include that this argument is not valid when both spouses consent to the other's action and agree to the other spouse having sexual relations with another person in connection with the type of marriage that forms an “open marriage” (Wasserstrom, 1985). , p.247). To support Wasserstrom's main argument that he describes in his work, he considers that if adultery occurs, it may or may not be immoral depending on the circumstances. I agree with his argument because I think today's marriages are not the normal traditional marriages found today, they have many compromises and the spouses support each other with their needs and their desires. However, cases where adultery is not immoral would be when society associates sexual intercourse with romantic relationship.
