    With total darkness surrounding me, I trudged forward. I was all alone except for the two large brick buildings adjacent to me. As I walked, I said to myself: “Eyes open. Open ears. Start your senses. Put your guard up and keep it there. There is danger everywhere. Be like a ninja. The sidewalk I was walking on was no longer concrete, but rather grass because the grass hadn't been mowed in months. Oddly enough, the more I walked, the warmer I got, even though it was the middle of winter. No one had lived in the apartments near me and my family for about a year. It seemed we had been forgotten. At the back of the desolate apartment complex, we were all alone. As I walked forward, I noticed a strange smell coming from the building to my right. It smelled of burnt wood. Suddenly I realized there was a fire nearby. Once I realized the danger posed by the potential fire, I panicked. As I ran to my apartment, I started screaming for my mother.
