Change of women in the 1950sAt the time of the Salem witch trials, women were not seen working for wages outside the home. Puritan women were held to very high standards even though the law is the Bible. Women were allowed to stay at home while the man went to work to support the family. Women stayed at home and did the cleaning, cooking, laundry, and sewing the family's clothes. If she had a child, she still had to do her household chores and raise a child. Puritan women wore dresses that covered them down to their ankles. She was supposed to have dinner ready by the time the man returned from hunting. They were very religious people, so something like adultery was completely unacceptable to anyone, regardless of the circumstances. Puritan women also had no voice in politics, it was mainly men who made choices for the community or for the home. The main thing a Puritan woman focused on was being good to her husband and being the best wife she could be. They didn't go looking for work for themselves, because that was unheard of at the time. Women have always been looked down upon in Puritan communities because it was the day before women first bit into the forbidden fruit in the book of Genesis of the Holy Bible. The women weren't complaining about their lives, they were completely okay with being stay-at-home moms. They were so busy with household chores that she wouldn't have time to work if she had any energy after her household chores. In those days, a lot of things we take for granted didn't exist back then, so most everything was done by hand and it took longer to complete simple tasks like washing dishes or just grabbing a bath. Thanks to the technological advances of the 1950s, we have a multitude of new devices to make household chores easier. And nowadays you can find men who play the role of the stay-at-home father and the mother goes out and earns all the money for the family. Which is completely different from sixteen hundred, and undoubtedly, living is also much easier.
