    For example, I recently had to use the compromising style with a group of my friends. Compared to my first year, I have 25 additional hours of classes and other activities that I am participating in this year. As a result, I haven't been able to spend as much time with my friends as I did last year. Naturally, this upset them because they thought I was ignoring them (Heitler). However, I was surprised that they weren't angry at another friend who hadn't interacted with them much this semester. After discussing this situation with them, I understood several things. First, they were angry with me for not spending time with them. Second, they weren't annoyed with the other friend because he hadn't interacted with them much in the last year. This anecdote shows that people are not at all happy with the change; the fact that I went from always having to spend time with them last year to not having time to spend time with them this semester made them think I was ignoring them. To resolve this conflict, I used the style of compromise to find a solution that would satisfy both my friends and myself (Groth).
