Essay / Importance of Nursing Informatics - 1462
Sand-Jeklin and Sherman (2014) studied seven medical-surgical units by having a control group that performed their usual routine and an experimental group that implemented bedside reporting . As the experiment concluded, the study revealed positive results such as better communication between nurses, greater patient involvement, and fewer falls and medication errors. On the contrary, the study showed that some nurses had negative attitudes toward the time required to complete bedside reports, and that some nurses were inconsistent with implementing the reports (Sand-Jeklin and Sherman, 2014). This study shows not only that bedside reporting had positive results, but that some nurses were unhappy with the format. It is therefore important for the consumer of the item to weigh both the positive and the negative and determine what might work for them.
