She asks, “Oh, what are you doing, Mrs. Hale?” (881). Mrs. Hale responds that she is "just pulling a stitch or two that aren't sewn very well" and that she will "just end up at that end" (881). This is ironic because the women end up sewing up his tusk the same way they sewed up his blanket.
