With the one-child policy adopted in 1979, many wondered what kind of effect it would have on China. What I believe to be the main effect of this policy are the negative consequences that followed the establishment of the family planning policy (one-child policy). Some of these effects include forced abortions, sex ratio differences, infanticide and many more. I think that because these effects are so harsh and so incontrovertible, the negative effects caused by the one-child policy have virtually destroyed what we might call Chinese family life. A policy aimed at one objective can have unforeseen impacts elsewhere. If this policy continues for too long, it may prove counterproductive. This is exactly what I believe happened with this policy. For starters, it's about how to get around these laws, the different things families would do to still have more than one child. Families would go as far as if the mother was pregnant, fake the father's divorce and let the first child live with the father for a period of time.
