Essay / Essay on Why Abortion is Wrong by Marquis - 1178
In my opinion, Marquis' argument that abortion is morally wrong has some flaws, it is biased in favor of the fetus and makes unreasonable assumptions. Specifically, Marquis' explanation for why killing an adult human is wrong has the potential to lead to controversial conclusions. Marquis also does not consider the consequences on the lives of the fetus' potential parents. Due to the nature of the topic of abortion, it only applies to women who are considering abortion and, as such, we cannot make the standard assumptions that we will have with normal fetuses. In this essay, I will explain Marquis's argument and attempt to show that his argument cannot conclude that abortion is morally wrong. Marquis takes a different approach to the subject of abortion than most other people, he is not trying to establish that the fetus is a person, but rather trying to establish a reason why killing us is wrong, and to show that reason also applies. to fetuses; and so the argument from a future like ours has great difficulty dealing with cases where killing the subject would clearly be wrong. For example, imagine that there is a person who will die naturally in the next moment; they have no future. Or a person who is currently not enjoying and will never enjoy their future. Suppose you know these facts and these people are in front of you. It seems that the argument from a future similar to ours would lead to the conclusion that it would not be morally wrong at all to kill these people because either they have no future or they will never find of value in their future. . This obviously doesn't seem like the right conclusion, because common sense should tell us that it would be extremely wrong to kill these people. This shows that the argument for a future similar to ours is flawed, and therefore Marquis's argument against
