Effective communication in the business world must be mastered to succeed in a competitive market. Individuals will need to learn about their audience to know the best way to convey their messages effectively. If individuals do not analyze their audience first, their messages will be lost to a portion of the audience who may not understand the level of language. With diversity in the business environment, individuals must ensure that when they address an audience, they address their message to everyone. When addressing a situation in which diversity is present, speakers should always design their communication with the audience in mind. To achieve effective communication with a diverse audience, speakers must consider the characteristics of their audience. One of the characteristics of the public is its level of education. Knowing that the audience includes a group of stakeholders, including managers, salespeople, and customers, will help stakeholders determine how to approach them appropriately. Some customers may not have the level of knowledge and experience as the other audience. Individuals should therefore use simple language with simple sentences and appropriate common words. In addition, part of the public can master English. English may be their second language and they may not understand higher vocabulary words (Routledge, 2000). Choosing the appropriate communication channels will help the audience walk away with an understanding of the information presented. A face-to-face meeting involving verbal and oral communication would be helpful when presenting quarterly sales information. This will allow the audience to hear the message, feel the tone of the speaker's voice and look at middle of paper...... and choose the communication channel that suits the needs of their audience. A diverse audience, from different backgrounds and education levels, will have different levels of understanding; therefore, speakers should choose simple, everyday language so that the entire audience can understand it. If speakers want their audience to walk away retaining the information, there must be feedback from the audience to complete the communication cycle. Works Cited United States Department of Labor.
