Essay / World peace is NOT possible - 1931
Due to the nature of humanity, the imbalance between wealth and power, and cultural and religious diversity, world peace is not a real possibility. First, I will define human nature from a biblical perspective. I will then examine the state of nature in the context of Glaucon and Thomas Hobbes. Finally, I will rely on the literature of Immanuel Kant and Jean Baudrillard. For our greater good, we would all like to live in a world without war, a world where competition is replaced by cooperation and individual freedom. However, this will never be the case; It is from the beginning of creation that violence or internal conflict within humanity manifested itself. Genesis 4:8 states that "Cain killed his brother Abel because his offering to God was not well received like his brother Abel." Therefore, this shows that we are all self-centered and crave not for others but for ourselves and will resort to evil if we feel threatened or offended in any way by another human being. “All people are made up of a combination of characteristics; these characteristics are grouped into two. The noble category includes altruism, cooperation, balance, while the ignoble is exactly the opposite, hysteria, fear and selfishness” (Eisenhower, 2008). The nobles and the ignobles are at constant war. Eisenhower further argues that humans are born without pre-existing connections to others and that society itself is composed of only a small number of individuals. Therefore, in doing so, humans look out for their own interests and often come into conflict with each other. Many will say that although evil is everywhere, we can find examples of kindness and cooperation in the world.
