It's only after Torvald yells at Nora that she realizes she doesn't like the way their relationship works. She immediately takes drastic action by running away. In The Yellow Wallpaper, John's wife tries to "have a really reasonable conversation with him" (Gilman 3). Since John doesn't think his wife's opinions are valid, they can't have a legitimate conversation. She really wants to go visit her cousins, but he made a negative decision for her without her advice. When she begins to go crazy and believe that she sees a real woman on the wallpaper, she becomes freer. She left being trapped by her husband. His life has changed and is no longer reality. Since the woman believes that she is actually the woman in the wallpaper, she says, "'I'm finally out...in spite of you and Jane'" (Gilman 7). Even if she is crazy, she is right, she has freed herself, because she does not listen to her husband. She no longer feels bound by his word of protection
