Essay / Drugs in America - 755
Drugs in AmericaToday, in America, many young people are experimenting with illegal drugs. Some people try drugs recreationally, others are addicted to drugs and cannot survive without them. Usually, it all starts for recreational purposes, and people who cannot control their hobbies become drug addicts. There are many types of drugs, but all drugs are similar in that they alter one's understanding of the environment, feelings, senses, and mood. Some drugs cause physical dependence, meaning that after several tries of a particular drug, the body requires that chemical to function. Some drugs destroy lives; people use drugs so much that it changes their personality and their acceptance of the environment, people become happy and sad, active and weak under the influence of drugs. It makes their minds and bodies sick. Heavy drug users don't live long, either dying of health complications, on the streets, or if they're lucky, going to prison. In the following paragraphs I will talk about the most popular drugs from my point of view and my experience with some of them. I tried marijuana when I was in high school. Marijuana affects everyone differently, some people like it and some people don't. After four years of occasional smoking, I decided to quit last year. The good thing about marijuana is that you cannot become physically dependent on it. Many people, including myself, have decided to quit smoking, and many have done so successfully. The effects I experienced were: extreme stupidity, laughing for no reason, paranoia and extreme laziness the next morning. Paranoia is the worst effect of marijuana. When a person is paranoid, they begin to think about the negative things that are hidden deep within them... middle of paper ... the most common drugs used in America. Why do people try and continue using drugs? There are many answers to this question, but the most common is “sometimes we need to get away from where we belong.” I smoked marijuana with my friends when I was bored and had nothing else to do. I stopped using marijuana because I felt it wasn't good for me and that I would be better off without it. If you are an occasional drug user, it is very important not to try drugs that can cause physical dependence. It's always a good idea to research any medications you have tried or are going to try, so you know what physical or mental complications it may cause. I wouldn't recommend trying drugs because if you don't know what it's like to take drugs you'll never want them again, but if you try them and you like them, you might just waste your life..
