    High school students at workWe spend four years of our lives attending secondary school. Going to high school is supposed to prepare us for college and the “real world.” During these four years, we begin to better understand our choices for college majors, but we do not face the financial and time challenges that we will face. College costs money, and so does everyday life. When we attend college, we become more independent and face the problem of finding money and balancing time at work and school. Although it may seem like working while in high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for the “real world.” There are many benefits to having a job. One of these benefits is obvious: earning income. With income comes responsibilities. When a student becomes an adult, he must learn to depend on his own income, and there is nothing he can do to prepare for this except begin to realize the responsibilities that come with earning an income. Students can gain experience by working through high school. This provides the opportunity to learn how to budget money, which is an essential part of being independent.
