Essay / Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Healthy People 2020
Having a relationship with someone they are interested in allows the couple to form a bond with each other. When the bond between them is strong, they can make the decision to take their relationship to the next level, that of sex. During sex, the person and their partner engage in sexual behavior. In the heat of the moment, both men's minds are in complete ecstasy, unaware of what is happening. During ecstasy, even the smallest things can be forgotten, like a condom. Once everything subsided and ejaculation occurred, not only was the person having unprotected sex, but they were also exposing themselves to sexually transmitted diseases. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are illnesses contracted through unprotected sex with an infected person. Since some STDs have no symptoms, it's usually difficult to tell whether or not the person is infected, whether or not you've had sex. According to It's Your Sex Life.com (nd), "1 in 2 sexually active people will contract an STD before the age of 25." Unfortunately, the statistics are true; Many young adults don't know they have had an STD until they get tested. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2008), it is estimated that there are “approximately 19 million new STD infections each year.” The majority of those infected are between the ages of 15 and 24, which proves that something is happening within the community. That said, Healthy People 2020 (2010), a guide used to plan goals for the next 10 years that help improve the well-being of the United States, has one goal set for STDs: “Promote healthy sexual behaviors , build community capacity, and increase access to quality services to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs...... middle of article ......mHuman papillomavirus (HPV)).
