I want to pursue a doctorate in industrial engineering specializing in ergonomics in a reputed university in the United States (US). During my doctoral studies, I plan to conduct ergonomics research focused on preventing injuries resulting from the use of manually operated devices. I want to focus on one particular area because relevant studies have provided evidence that various health problems appear to be growing alongside the rapid growth in the use of hand-held gadgets. However, few studies attempt to explain the empirical evidence on musculoskeletal risks associated with the use of the most recently developed gadgets. Additionally, to improve my knowledge to support my research, I plan to take several ergonomics courses such as Occupational Biomechanics and Human Motor Behavior Engineering Systems. The field I choose is relevant to my education, my professional experience and the needs of the university where I currently work. First of all, I chose ergonomics as my thesis subject for my undergraduate and master studies. For my undergraduate thesis, I developed software to analyze the biomechanical properties of the human body during lifting and lowering tasks aimed at minimizing musculoskeletal risks resulting from these activities. Then, as part of my master's thesis, due to the large number of musculoskeletal disorders of the human wrist, I studied the effect of non-neutral postures on wrist muscular activities. Additionally, I had the experience of working as an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Specialist in a car manufacturer in Indonesia. During this period, I discovered that a better understanding of employee OSH would lead to a reduction in the number of workplace accidents, I...... middle of paper ......ctureur, I would like to transfer my deeper understanding of ergonomics to my students and ask them to apply it so that we can make many contributions to society. Then, Indonesia faced a serious problem in ergonomic standards such as portable product sizing system and lifting limit recommendation. The equations and standards used in Indonesia are still adopted by other countries. However, since race, ethnicity, age, gender and occupation make human characteristics, from the point of view of physiological and psychological properties, different between Indonesians and others, the standards of other countries are not fully applicable in Indonesia. According to these needs, as a PhD holder in Industrial Engineering (Ergonomics), I want to conduct research focusing on the development of Indonesia-based ergonomic standards after returning to Indonesia..
