    Electric Cars Electric car technology has been around since the early 19th century, but quickly disappeared when the gasoline engine took center stage. It wasn't until the 1970s, with oil prices reaching new highs, that electric cars were even considered as an alternative. The main reasons why the public considers electric cars inaccessible are their high cost and limited capabilities. Early in their development, electric cars were extremely expensive, basic, and so technically limited that many people thought it would be more practical to buy a golf cart. Unfortunately, these prejudices have left many people blind to the tremendous progress electric cars have made over the years. Their improvements have a lot to do with the fact that major automakers such as General Motors, Ford, Chrysler and Tesla Motors are producing high-performance electric vehicles. As major manufacturing companies continue to improve the engineering of electric cars, the future of commuting automobiles has become electric. The world is evolving with an environmental crisis and changes must be made. As most Americans want for the future generation, our choice of vehicles will be re-evaluated. With increasing air pollution in the United States, potential health risks from pollutants have reached dangerous heights, especially for children's health. A study by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that eleven million American children live in areas that exceed one or more federal air quality standards, and this number continues to grow (The). Air pollution is a reality; If we continue at the same rate, the future effects of air pollution on the world will be catastrophic.
