  • Essay / The legalization of marijuana in Canada - 1859

    1. IntroductionIn television news, there is an abundance of horrific information about deaths due to excessive drug use. Often, many entertainment stars in Hollywood were accidentally killed by excessive drug use, for example, Michel Jackson. Additionally, in some cases in Canada, when the majority of companies hire employees, applicants are usually questioned or subjected to drug testing. Unfortunately, the number of marijuana users has rapidly increased in contemporary Canadian society, particularly among adolescents. According to information from CBC (2009), more than 40,000 Canadians are usually charged with possessing prohibited marijuana each year. The report adds that, according to some research, the country's best-known illegal drug, Cannabis sativa, is increasingly prevalent in adolescent society and that 10 million young Canadians have already used marijuana at least once in their lives (para. 3). In response to this, some Canadians are complaining that legal substances like alcohol and tobacco are killing more people and questioning why marijuana, as a soft drug, is not decriminalized to become controlled substances. In fact, the time has come to revamp the idea of marijuana legalization for the good of society. The purpose of this research paper is to explore the legalization of marijuana in Canada. First, the report will present the history of marijuana legalization. Next, current principles of medical use in Canada will be discussed. The last point will focus on the authorization of marijuana for recreational activities of the general Canadian public. The final part will produce recommendations for the Government of Canada to expand the legitimization of marijuana...... middle of paper ...... treatment: the Canadian experience.
