Ethical Issues Are a Major ConcernEvery organization has a set of ethical standards that it follows. The purpose of the organization's ethical standards is to build the organization's trust in the community, to keep employees uniform in what the organization strives for as organizational behaviors, and to help employees to have guidelines for making ethical decisions that protect the organization. Each organization also has a profession. responsibility to conduct its business honestly and ethically. Our reading reports: “Experts estimate that U.S. companies lose approximately $600 billion annually due to unethical and criminal behavior” Kinicki and Kreitner (2009). The organization could avoid having ethical issues by following the guidelines of state, federal, and local laws. Ethical issues are a great concern for the organization because they impose responsibilities on the organization as well as severe sanctions such as:1. This could be costly for the organization.2. This can ruin the reputation of the company and lead to the closure of the organization.3. Employees risk being incarcerated. When an organization uses ethical practices, it builds a strong reputation, increases profits, and achieves a long-term standing with its consumers. When the organization uses unethical practices, the damage to the organization's reputation is difficult to repair, the company usually needs to restructure and repair the internal and external forces of the company. A good example would be the startup of Wal-Mart, it started with a strong reputation as a respectable organization, the stores saw huge growth and became popular very quickly. Although no organization is 100% protected, the organization can minimize the risk of unethical behavior. practicing sanctions by screening applicants, providing ongoing ethical training, insisting that management lead by example, implementing a reward and evaluation system for employees, and observing individual ethical behavior.
