  • Essay / The Bright Night - 883

Society has changed the way of living during the “dark sky”: there are not many stars visible which make the sky look light and dark. The company's innovation in street lighting has created light pollution that puts them at risk. In the article “Our Vanishing Night” by Verlyn Klinkenborg, the author explains what the society that created light pollution is doing; because it now affects their environment. Urban environments were able to see stars in the sky many years ago. An excessive number of street lamps, poorly covered and exposing light to the sky, surround their environment. Light pollution has had negative effects on society as its environment becomes a danger to life. Light pollution occurs because streetlights are not fully aimed toward the sky. When street lamps expose light to the sky where it is not needed; the sky has changed. Half of the light from a street lamp is used properly to have clear vision at night. Most of the light from a street lamp that is not covered is not useful. In low-income communities, higher crime rates at night are a stereotype. The urban society then decides to increase the number of street lights in its community, believing that this can reduce the crime rate; use light to gain a clear view of events unfolding from dusk to dawn. “Poorly designed lighting eliminates the darkness of night and radically alters the light levels – and light rhythms – to which many life forms, including ourselves, have adapted. » (p. 240) Klinkenborg is right; they have created a new bright night in which they adapt to live. They feel like this is a normal adaptation, but it has only made the environment...... middle of paper ...... suspend the lives of many societies and animals; this will continue to evolve for the worse unless changes are made. A student who lives in the city and wants to pursue a career in archaeoastronomy will have a limited number of universities due to the fact that many urban cities have skies with an orange haze that does not let the stars be visible for research. Unnecessary street lights are used at night and are not properly covered. They brightened their night with artificial light exposed to the sky. Light pollution has caused tragic changes in the lives of humans and animals. To end light pollution, people need to change the habits created during the night. Street lights can be swapped out to face downward, which will not expose light to the sky. Low-income communities will no longer have to worry about health risks.
