    Nurse Ratched: I used to hate Nurse Ratched and sure do now. His sneaky little plans to turn patients against each other infuriate me. I'm glad McMurphy broke the window; this will remind patients that its power is limited and changeable. However, she made McMurphy stronger than ever, even with the countless electroshock treatments. Proving his will to remain strong in the face of tyranny. "And he swelled, aware that every one of those faces on Disturbed had turned to him and waited, and he was telling the nurse that he was sorry he had only one life to give for his country and that she could kiss him. red and pink ass before abandoning the damn ship. Yeah ! (Kesey, 187) I agree to some extent, that without her there would be no book, she makes the book exciting even though her methods are almost pure. Her character is a symbol of the oppression that women experienced during this time, and in a way, the society these characters live in is reversed. While on the outside women have no rights, in the room they are the all-powerful, all-knowing, powerful and controllable force. So yes we need Nurse Ratched but I still hate her. Over the course of the short novel, she destroyed three men, two of whom died and the other was lobotomized. “What worries me, Billy,” she said – I could hear the change in her voice – “is how your mother will take this.” (Kesey, 231) I can't say I enjoyed Nurse Ratched being strangled by McMurphy, but I think she deserved it. But it was the end of the battle since the nurse had won the war. By infuriating McMurphy to this extent and her ability to remain calm throughout all of this, she proved that McMurphy's action did not bother her. She proved that rebelling is weak and by lobot... middle of paper... others. We can choose to do good and help others or we can judge them wrongly. In this regard, reading An Overview of the Cuckoo's Nest is definitely a good choice.
