Practical Solutions for Now What has also been introduced are technological solutions. Digital rights management (DRM) technologies clamp down on users when a new computer has been purchased, limiting software installation times or the number of devices on which a song can be used (Upshaw & Babin, 2010) . Digital rights management (DRM) technology is specifically designed to prevent you from using the original material, whether music, film, or e-book, on multiple devices (Zimerman, 2011). But it still needs a lot of improvement in order to become effective in fighting online piracy, because hackers always find other ways and circumvent it. Few published studies have addressed product-specific incentives that encourage legal commerce over piracy. Upshaw and Babin (2010) believed that owning an Apple product could influence purchasing behavior by belonging to the “iPod owner” or “Apple product owner” social group. On the other hand, the results showed that encouraging the use of iTunes as an online store does not encourage legal commerce rather than piracy. Incentives, such as videos of live performances or discounts on tickets to live performances, can convince consumers to purchase music. Such elements at least make respondents more willing to pay for music. Such additional content would therefore increase the likelihood that individuals will purchase music instead of pirating it. Although there is no clear solution to the general problem of music piracy, changing the social acceptance of music piracy or ethical sentiments is often mentioned as the most useful way to get consumers not to pirate . It would be better to combat piracy by offering value-added content when purchasing music and also by creating online stores...... middle of paper ......cnn.com/2010 /02/02 /news/companies/napster_music_industry/Hamister, J. and Braunscheidel, M.
