Brief Description – In the 1920s, money was everything. Even though most of the characters in the novel had money, they lacked something else, something more than money. Money doesn't buy happiness, but the characters don't seem to understand that. Jay Gatsby had everything he ever wanted to have, except for the one thing he couldn't have. Today, women are starting to take charge and get higher positions.d. Importance – Fitzgerald teaches readers that money cannot buy happiness and that the American dream is just that, a dream that most people cannot live in.
