Children's oral health is a very important and growing concern in the world today. Most children in today's society do not realize the importance of their oral health and the impact it can have on their lives. Worse yet, some parents don't know how important it is to provide their children with the dental care and attention they need. However, many parents ask their children's dentist very important questions. New parents often wonder what effects thumb sucking and pacifiers can have on their child's teeth and jaw. While other parents want to know what tooth decay is. Additionally, parents are concerned about early childhood cavities. Parents of older children often wonder if their child will need braces. Parents often wonder at what age a child should seek orthodontic care. However, every parent asks the "million dollar question": What is the best way to keep my child's mouth healthy and protected? Many children when they are toddlers and some even when they are toddlers suck a pacifier and/or their thumb. It is a natural instinct in children; Most children start sucking on a pacifier shortly after birth. For many years, parents have lived and sworn by these items to help soothe or even calm a screaming baby, others provide them in order to prevent SIDS, also known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. While some children who have never sucked a pacifier a day in their life might become thumbsuckers as they grow up. Although sucking on these objects does not present any direct harm if used correctly and for a not too prolonged period of time.
