Essay / The difficulties of the Holocaust - 1036
The Holocaust was a terrible period in history; many innocent people have been killed, all because of their faith. The book Night by Ellie Wiesel describes the vigorous journey that Wiesel and her family go through throughout this tortuous time. The Holocaust was not only a genocide against the Jews; it was also a long process to dehumanize them. Their valuables were confiscated and their heads were shaved, stripping them of their identity. Dr. Mengele was a Nazi doctor and scientist who carried out numerous studies on twins in the camps; he essentially used Auschwitz as his own personal laboratory. The camp's twins were his main victims, one used as a control and the other to test and test experimental factors. Many of these twins were murdered during or after the experiments. Mengele performed extreme surgeries without any anesthesia. Other experiments ranged from lethal injections, chemical tests, castration, pressure chambers, and exposure to other extreme trauma ("Angel of Death"). Eva Mozes Kor and her twin Miriam Mozes were survivors of Dr. Mengele's experiments. Eva explains how she and her sister were discovered by Mengele in the camps. “Everything was happening very quickly and as I looked around I noticed that my father and my two older sisters were missing. As I held my mother's hand, an SS man rushed in, shouting: Twins! Twins! He stopped to look at us. Miriam and I looked a lot alike. Are they twins? he asked my mother. Is it good? she replied. He nodded yes. They are twins, she said. (“Eva and Miriam”). During the holocaust, having a twin was much better than having a normal sibling, because Mengele wanted his experiments to go smoothly, the twins had to be healthy. They slept with other twins and got extra...paper in the middle...someone else lying in his father's bed. His father had died while Eliezer slept. Not long after the camp was liberated and Eliezer was freed, but he was no longer the same due to all the violence he had endured over the years in the camps. Louis Bülow Confidentiality, 2012-2014.
