  • Essay / The concept of equity and its role in a country

Equity is a concept that must be emphasized to form a prosperous country. Because fairness can help ensure that the well-being of society is protected and reduce disparities within society. This concept is also important to society, unless members of society accept that society, the economy and the country are fair enough, then it becomes something that no longer matters. Analyzes also show that injustice can affect economic performance and state administration. To address equity, we need to understand what equity is. What is the concept of equity? Is equity effective for the country? Welch (2000) stated that equity is complicated due to its multiple meanings including equality, fairness and adequacy. Say no to plagiarism. It is defined as equal, which means that society has the same rights, privileges, abilities or ranks, while equity is the concept of fairness that a fair and equitable share is proportional to what the person has earned and adequacy as a principle of fairness means ensuring that people have enough. Based on the article “Equality: What Is Fair” that I read, the equality policy implemented in the Civil Rights Act of 1965 is introduced as “equal pay”. This policy used the concept of the same pay for the same work within the same company. However, this is not a successful policy during this period, so we move on to the other version which is “equivalent”. The new policy concept is equal pay for work of equal value across different jobs. This shows that an equivalent concept applies in ensuring the satisfaction of a person's needs and wants. As for me, the last concept "equivalent" is better than "equal pay" because it is fairer to people. They will receive a reward based on the work they have accomplished. In order to improve the principle of fairness, equal inputs and outputs are also introduced in the society. Equality inputs mean everyone gets the same but may end up unequal while equality outcomes mean everyone gets different but depends on needs but may end up equal. In my opinion, to react to this concept, I prefer equality results because it depends on the needs and circumstances of the person, besides giving the same contribution, but some people don't need it at all of this contribution. Apart from that, the article also stated that equality can be different by comparing three policy points which are vertical, horizontal and temporal. Although each is called equality, the political implication can be very different. Vertical equality is comparing whether someone is higher or lower, better or worse off, than anyone else, this means comparing all people. Horizontal equality compares people within subgroups who have the same circumstances or needs. Temporal equality compares the same person or groups at different times. Furthermore, this article also mentions the concept of fairness and equity. Equity is the concept of fairness that a fair share is proportional to what the person has earned. This concept is mainly measured by the economic market value of production. For example, you do something based on the amount you paid. . However, for me this concept is not feasible.
