    Ailey dedicated this song to his mother and all African women of that time, especially mothers. He knew the difficulties and problems they were going through. This play depicts a woman's journey through the anxieties of slavery to a state of grace. At the beginning, from 0:00 to 0:17, we see a woman dressed in white and covering her face. Then she slowly moves her arms outwards and reveals her face. We see a strong woman who, despite her life as a slave, learns to be strong-willed and indestructible. What fascinates me most about this piece is between 0:18 and 0:49, when the woman holds a white cloth in front of her and rocks from side to side, crossing one foot over the other . This shows that she is unaffected by the American's actions, implying how fed up she is with it all. She moves with attitudes of courage and daring and we see all the difficulties she has gone through with the expressions on her
