What is universal health care?Universal health care is a form of health coverage provided by a government so that all its citizens have access to health services. Under universal health care, it is a system providing health coverage to all voluntary participants. This is usually done through a tax-funded government program. The United States is the only developed country in the world that does not have a universal healthcare system for its citizens. Medicaid and Medicare do not count because they target a select group of citizens. It is important to note the distinction between universal health care and socialized medicine before continuing. Many people confuse the terms. Under universal health care hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, nurses, dentists, etc. can all remain independent. They can be for-profit or not-for-profit. In socialized medicine, the entire industry is the government. So if you wanted to become a doctor, you would work for the government. The debate regarding the implementation of Obama Care or Universal Health Care (UHC) is at the top of the health care issue. Many private and public organizations are mobilizing on the issue. Those who support the idea of UHC are passionate about everyone having access to health care as a right of being a U.S. citizen. However, those who oppose a government-run health care system worry about the government's ability to effectively administer such a large responsibility. Although CSU is a law, the country still remains divided on the issue. Meanwhile, 45 million people remain uninsured and waiting for a solution.
