Essay / Early Childhood Education - 1085
There are many theories surrounding the application of early childhood education. Many theorists and researchers have submitted factual information and strategies that have helped educators over the years. I believe my personal beliefs about early childhood education are a combination of several theorists. In the world we live in, not all individuals and children are created equal. Several factors determine a person's state of mind. People learn and process information differently based on several different factors. Among the theorists I have studied, Piaget's theory of cognition implies that children form their own way of learning (Department of Psychology and Neuroscience). Piaget suggested that children don't really need help from adults to learn something new (Department of Psychology and Neuroscience). He also suggested that children do not need any rewards or incentives from others to motivate them (Department of Psychology and Neuroscience). I partly agree with this theory. Children can and do learn some things on their own. A child does not need any help after birth to learn to swallow or chew once teeth have erupted. Most children also don't need help falling asleep. I also believe that there are some things that even though children can understand most things, they still need to have a role model for most things in their life. Children learn to walk, talk and play by watching others perform the same actions. There needs to be some sort of demonstration or model for a child to follow in order to learn. Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory is similar to Piaget's, but not the same. Maslow believed that people are automata... middle of paper ....... Personality theories.
