  • Essay / Drama In Act I, Scene V - 1114

Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story written by William Shakespeare in the 16th century. The themes are based on tragedy, love and destiny. Love is introduced by Romeo and Juliet throughout the play and is what they only do together. Their fate will unfortunately be their death. However, they were both destined to end in calamity. To begin, the play opens with the prologue in Verona, Italy. The prologue is written in the form of a sonnet and is a traditional poetic form dealing with the theme of love requited. Sonnets also created a sense of harmony. If we read the prologue, we would know that the play will end in tragedy. The unlucky children of these enemy families: the Montagues and the Capulets fall in love but commit suicide, meaning of the prologue “Two star-crossed lovers commit suicide”. This suggests to the audience that their abandoned deaths ended their parents' war. However, the bombings against the two families had ended. This brought a lesson to the Montagues and the Capulets that there could have been reconciliation instead of antipathy. Furthermore, what is abnormal in the prologue is that it evokes the tragic ending. This pleases the audience because it makes them ruminate on why Shakespeare would want the ending to end before the play's prelude begins. Just before Act 1 Scene 5, Shakespeare placed this piece of text, in which Romeo says, "I fear too soon." '. This makes us think about why Shakespeare put this here and what feelings is he trying to create. The possible feeling he is experiencing right now is the fear mentioned in the quote. This creates a lot of tension in the air and makes the audience feel very lustful wondering why they feel crazy... middle of paper... i will die but nevertheless she will die if she has him like well. When Juliet asks the nurse to find out who Romeo is, she says, "If he is married, my grave will be like my wedding bed." This is interesting because if Romeo marries Juliet, then they will both die and the wedding will be like they are celebrating their wedding in mourning. The audience will imagine that Juliette has no way out of this. Either way, she dies whether she marries Romeo or can't have him at all. She has been cemented and cannot get out of this difficult situation. Juliette also says: “My only love was born from my only hatred”. This makes the audience realize that the only one she hates came from the only one she loves. This creates an antithesis. The words "love" and "hate" are there because it increases the tension and she has a predilection for him as well as hatred..
