Emerson is a transcendentalist who took inspiration from nature. Emerson's thinking motivated most American writers, and most poets were also inspired by Emerson's words. He also spoke out against slavery and even helped escaped slaves. Thoreau was also an American transcendentalist and was also interested in the study of nature. He inspired countless people and was also imprisoned for refusing the tax system. Later, Thoreau went to the woods so he could concentrate on his work. He was so interested in nature that he kept every detailed note and observation about nature. Thus, in “The American Scholar,” Emerson considers man and nature to be the same, while in “Walden,” Thoreau considers nature more important than man.
