  • Essay / The Bahamas: tourist trips to the Bahamas

BahamasI decided to do my research paper on the Bahamas. The Bahamas has always amazed me when I watch the commercials on television. This summer I will be going to Atlantis in the Bahamas and I am very excited to be able to visit there. I thought the Bahamas would be perfect for my article because when I got there I would know a lot more about the physical and human areas of geography. The first part of my research focused on the population. The population of the Bahamas is approx. 319,000 people. This estimate does not include the number of people who travel there each month for vacation, as the Bahamas is a very common honeymoon location. This means the population is larger than it already is with the people living there. The first settlement of the Bahamas took place in 1648 by a group of English Puritans also known as the Eleutheran Raiders. The first name of the island was Eleuthera, but it was later changed to Bahamas. The economy of the Bahamas is based on tourism. The more people come to the Bahamas, the more the economy will grow. Tourism makes up 60% of the Bahamas' territory and provides employment for more than half of the country's workforce. The Bahamas is like any other place and has a highway running through the islands. The highway is nearly 1,700 miles long. Their main means of transportation is through ports and airports. As you know, the Bahamas has a lot of tourism and they mainly come to the island by boat and plane. The main recreational activities in the Bahamas would be the beach resorts. The main resorts in the Bahamas are Sandals and Atlantis. There are many activities you can do there. For example, some things are water slides, swimming pools, golf courses, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins and many others...... middle of paper ...... flooded by rising ocean temperatures. The weather and climate of the Bahamas is mild and average temperatures hover around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to explore the Bahamas is said to be between September and May. The average temperature then is 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The rest of the year is normally warmer with high humidity during the summer months. Nighttime temperatures are typically 74 degrees Fahrenheit. I really enjoyed researching the Bahamas. I learned a lot of things I never would have known. I never realized that the Bahamas was a place filled with families living there and, on top of that, all the tourism they received. It’s very interesting that their tourism keeps the island alive. After researching about the Bahamas, I would recommend people to go there and explore the culture they have there..
