In middle grades, students attend school solely for socialization. This can cause many disruptions during the school day. They're all going through a tough time just wanting to fit in somewhere. Some students may be afraid to participate in classroom activities because it may not be cool. Some kids may fail a class because they would become nerds if they worried about their grades. Romantic relationships also wreak havoc on students of this age. These two students can be in a relationship one minute and the next one of them is dating each other's best friend. These are all factors in their lives that we as teachers must compete with. If educators make school interesting and constructive, then students will be more likely to pay attention, which will partly solve these management problems.
