Faustus believed that he was already condemned to hell and could not be saved by God. “The offense of Faustus can never be forgiven: the serpent who tempted Eve can be saved, but not Faustus” (IV.i.41-42). Faustus was stupid to believe that hell was his place. Once he got a glimpse of his future in hell, he became afraid and had to "save his soul." “A year, a month, a week, a natural day for Faustus to repent and save his soul” (IV.i.140-142). He asked Lucifer to "spare" him, but he quickly realized it was too late. “Oh, spare me, Lucifer. Where is he now? / 'Here we go: and see where God”
