A typical college weekend involves going out to have fun at a party and drinking copious amounts of alcohol. This is called binge drinking, which is consuming 4 or more glasses of alcohol within a certain period of time. For years, we have observed excessive alcohol consumption among young adults. Due to excessive alcohol consumption, students suffer serious physical and mental consequences. According to Aaron White and Ralph Hingson, Harvard CAS data indicates that "students who binge once or twice in a two-week period are about three times older." as likely as non-binge drinkers to fall behind on schoolwork, experience memory loss, have unplanned sex, not use birth control during sex, damage property, getting into trouble with the police, driving after drinking or getting injured. cited in Wechsler 2000). The student should be aware of these consequences and think more about the need to not become dependent on alcohol. The more they know, the more lives they can save, whether their own or someone else's.
