IntroductionThe world today compared to 50 years ago is very different, the technology we have today is constantly changing and evolving to adapt to current societal needs. Skype is one of many technological changes that have occurred in just the last 15 years. It was launched in 2003 and revolutionized the way people could interact with each other. Skype allowed people to stay in touch for free, allowing video calls, text messages and voice calls; it has changed the way people communicate with each other in our society. Sociologically speaking, it allows human interactions on a whole new level, it allows people to celebrate birthdays, graduations, hold meetings and even learn a new language from anywhere in the world. Worldwide, 663 million people use Skype and are able to stay in touch with family and friends, regardless of distance (“Skype grows fy”, 2011). This technology has not only changed the way people communicate with each other. Although it has changed our behaviors and cultural values, Skype has become part of the vocabulary of most developed countries, as well as the daily vocabulary of most university students. All technological changes in our society have advantages and disadvantages, which makes it possible to think more about how much society has changed and how it is constantly evolving. Society is constantly changing, sometimes drastically and sometimes subtly, however, with changes people have learned to adapt and we either welcome the change or do our best to return to our old ways.
