Societies of the futureNo one knows what the future will look like. The future is an unsolved mystery that can never be revealed. People will never be able to live in the future, because the problem is that once people live in the future, the future becomes the present. Even though no one knows what the future will be like, people like to write about this unsolved mystery because there is no right or wrong answer to what the future will be like. The novel The Lathe of Heaven and the film The Matrix both focus on the future. The writers and creators of these works not only suggest what life might be like in the future with similarities and differences, but they also add what life is like today in order to make the stories more believable. There are different and similar aspects about future societies in both works. In both works there are people who know the difference between real worlds and everyone else who has absolutely no idea. The majority of people have absolutely no idea. People live their own lives without knowing anything about what's going on. These people live their lives in the same way as people in today's society. This is one of the reasons why people can relate to both stories. Additionally, in both works there are characters who try to improve all worlds in general. Dr. Haber in the novel tries to influence George to dream a certain way in order to improve the world. For example, he tries to make George dream of equality for all. In the film, Morphius frees Neo from the computer system because he believes he can change the world. Neo tries to be stopped from doing so by Agent Smith because he represents computers... middle of paper ... believes the world is still the way it is now. When people read the story, they tend to think about how realistic it might be for someone to be able to change the world when not everyone knows the difference and wonder how they could know the difference themselves. difference. This is similar to how The Matrix makes people question reality. These two works, The Lathe of Heaven and The Matrix, both suggest what life might be like in the future and at the same time connect the future to today's societies. A person has difficulty imagining the future because it is not actually happening. This is why the authors of these two works include aspects that can be linked to today's world.
