The Uses of Psychology for People at WorkPsychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes (Hilgard, 1996). Understanding this can be a useful tool for many different groups of people in the work environment, all of whom have their own interests in what psychology has to offer. These groups that will benefit include managers, employees, human resources specialists and unions. A deep understanding of human behavior patterns can be applied in a positive way to get the most out of individuals and increase productivity at work. This is achieved by reducing factors that interfere with the efficiency of people's work. This mission will aim to focus on the permanent and socially induced factors caused by the interaction between people and their environment, namely: managing and coping with stress at work; reduce the rate of bullying and harassment in the workplace; and maintain a high level of motivation and effort in demanding and tedious tasks. Every type of person in an organization is likely to suffer from worry and stress. Stress challenges a person's ability to adapt to internal and external demands, which can be physiologically arousing and emotionally taxing and require cognitive and behavioral responses (Westen, 1999). Stress causes physical and emotional disturbances, which can affect both a person's health and performance. This can lead to workplace tension and frequent absenteeism due to illegitimate sickness claims, so preventing it is beneficial to both the employee and the organization.
