    They have begun to develop an understanding of sound symbols to pronounce written words (Reading map of development, 2013), this is demonstrated by their ability to point to the word that they read. The child is beginning to understand the book and its meaning, but fluency has not yet been developed and several semantic errors have been made. They demonstrate a good understanding of a graphic signal and can do this most of the time without help from their parents. A visual/pictorial cue can be achieved through prompting from the parent, the child begins to understand how pictures can match the text and this, with more prompting, should become an automatic cue. The vocabulary is still limited, but it is expanding thanks to their continued reading (Reading map of development, 2013). They know and understand that books are read from left to right and top to bottom. They also know how to ask for help when they find themselves stuck in difficult situations.
