  • Essay / State Tests Required for High School Graduation

State tests have existed as a major in high school for many years now. Today, in almost all schools, students must pass these tests to graduate from high school. These tests are a very controversial topic, many pros and cons accompany the subject of state testing. Some people believe that these tests help students further their education and that they should be required to pass them to graduate from high school. others disagree and think these tests only cause more stress for students. Students spend their time in high school learning more about state tests when they could be spending more time learning skills that would help them in their future lives. However, there are some positive aspects of these tests. Some people view state tests as a way to compare students on how they learn or study for those tests. It is said that the test scores of students everywhere can be compared to see how they all perform and who can do better. . Once these scores are compared, all the scores from different schools can be averaged and these averages can be put together to see which schools are most successful. The schools with the highest success rate in these tests can then be rewarded for their work (Standardized Tests 1). Another benefit of state testing is for teachers of state testing subjects. Teachers who teach these classes often refer to it as “teaching to the test.” This essentially means that these teachers have more of a guide on what to teach these students. They always know what these students will need to know for these tests. These teachers should prepare to provide students with all the materials they will need...... middle of paper ...... training requirements should not require students to take proficiency tests State.
