Essay / For all eternity: compare arranged marriages to...
“For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death separates us.” These words, or similar ones, are spoken following a traditional love marriage; granted at the time of marriage, a spouse can only leave the other spouse if death is the cause. Nowadays, it is no longer the main cause of separation of a couple. The American Psychological Association has stated that 40 to 50 percent of traditional American marriages lead to divorce, while 1.1 percent of arranged Indian marriages lead to divorce. In some cultures, marriage for love is frowned upon because it does not guarantee a relationship. When parents arrange a relationship with their child, it ensures that they will be cared for. The difference between the two is that an arranged marriage brings together two strangers while a love marriage consists of two strangers who know each other well. The divorce rate is apparently lower in arranged marriages and they have been proven to be more stable than any other relationship. An arranged marriage guarantees a relationship for life while a love marriage is based on emotions. “An arranged marriage is said to be arranged when the man and woman are introduced through a third party, their families also meet and finally the marriage takes place with the consent of both the families and the couple”(HubPages) . There are four main factors that help match two individuals: caste, also known as social status, horoscope compatibility, and ego. An arranged marriage brings together people who know little about each other and get married as soon as possible. In Indian culture, dating is forbidden and if parents strongly believe in middle of paper ......, friendships and fun, but being arranged brings responsibility, trust and security. In this situation, love may not conquer all, but it does create a stable family environment. Works Cited “Arranged Marriage vs Love Marriage – Advantages and Disadvantages”. HubPages. Np, and Web.
